Our Home

We live in a cozy house on the South side of Indianapolis, Indiana. Our neighborhood has pretty yards with large trees and is on a cul-de-sac. Our neighbors are very friendly and helpful, and they range from retired couples to young families with children. We are in a very good location with a zoo, museums, and parks less than 15 minutes away. Also, we have several state parks about 30 minutes away. On the weekends we often enjoy a picnic or go boating or bicycling.

Each morning we awake to the chatter of birds and squirrels in the trees behind our house. Occasionally we see raccoons, ducks and even a fox or two. We have a large yard that is just right for a child and lots of playmate to play in. Our dog Dazy loves children and would really enjoy having another playmate to romp and play catch with. She is very gentle and has been with young children since she was a puppy.

In the evenings, after dinner we usually take a walk, work in the yard or we go play a game of putt-putt (miniature golf). However, we are looking forward to a change in routine as we anticipate sharing nightly feedings, bedtime stories, kissing skinned knees, and being there for both the disappointments and the happy times. We believe children are the center of life and they need to understand the meaning of home, family and unconditional love.

Our families

We both came from close, loving families. Don's parents, sister, nephew and nieces live three blocks away from us. We have Sunday dinner together almost every week. After dinner we play soft ball or kick ball with the kids. They are very excited about welcoming another child into the family. Murcia's parents only live thirty minutes away and are looking forward to their first grandchild. We get together with them once a week also. Christmas is always a very special time for us. We enjoy decorating, family gatherings and traditions, such as, baking cookies and putting the tree up on Thanksgiving weekend. Each Christmas and every holiday in between we dream about starting new traditions with a child. Our families have a lot of warmth and love to give to a child.

The River

About thirty years ago Don's parents bought a wooded, riverside spread of land in Bedford, Indiana we fondly refer to as "the river". They have a cabin there for Don, his sister and their families. We have cookouts, fish, boat and sometimes just relax on the porch with a good book, or take a nap. The river is a very special place to us and we are looking forward to sharing all of its wonders with a child. We enjoy nature and feel it is important for a child to learn about the outdoors and taking care of our environment.

Careers

Don is a tri-axle truck driver and Murcia is a health underwriter (Insurance). Our schedules allow both of us to be home in the evenings. Murcia's hours are flexible, which will allow her to occasionally work at home, and take time off for doctor appointments and emergencies. When the baby arrives, Murcia will take leave for the first two months. When she goes back to work, Don's cousin will then care for him/her. She has a small day care in her home and provides a loving and stable child care environment.
