Dear Expectant Mother We have been married for 10 years, and it is safe to say that each of us is the other’s best friend. We have always shared our goals and dreams. Due to infertility, we needed help in meeting one of our biggest goals, which was to be parents. This did not happen until we met one of the most unselfish people we know – our son’s birthmother. She knew that she could not care for Carter the way that she wanted, and she was looking for a couple who she felt comfortable with. All three of us feel it was a gift from God that we connected with each other. One of the reasons we chose open adoption is that we want our children to know about their backgrounds. Geri’s father was adopted in a closed setting, and he never knew very much about his birth family. We didn’t want that to happen in our family, and it hasn’t. We keep in contact with Carter’s birthmother, exchanging pictures and family news. We live in Douglasville, Georgia, which is just outside Atlanta. Even though our small town has turned into a city, it still has the intimacy of a smaller community while giving us access to everything that makes Atlanta special – whether it is the zoo or an Atlanta Thrasher’s hockey game. Again, thank you for taking the time to read about us. We would love to talk with you about any questions you may have.
