Dear Expectant Mother We are Donna and James and we met 6 years ago at a restaurant called "Lucky's" in New York City. We think it must have been named for us! Donna was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area and had moved to New York just a short time earlier to pursue her theatre career. James is a born and bred New Yorker and a New York City Firefighter. We married a few years later and have since tried unsuccessfully to have children. Because we feel that children would be very important in our lives, we've turned to adoption to help us complete this part of our life together. Donna still works as a director and choreographer but spends most of her time as a college professor in musical theatre and dance. Because classes meet two days a week, it's a great schedule with lots of flexibility for parenting. James' schedule as a firefighter is unusual, not being a 9-5 situation, but it leaves him so much more time to be able to spend with a child, and for us to spend as a family. We think of our "non-9 to 5" schedules as a real benefit because our child will be able to spend a lot of time with us both separately and together. We live in a great town just an hour outside the big city which feels like the country. We live in an old farm-style house on several acres full of tall pine trees, a small stream and a small swimming pool. We are fortunate enough to enjoy a comfortable lifestyle and we can offer a child a warm, loving home with financial stability. Our families are all looking forward to a new child. James is the youngest of four brothers who all live fairly close by. Two of his brothers have two daughters each and our nieces are really excited to have someone new to shower attention on! Donna's parents are looking forward to their first grandchild! They live in the San Francisco area and visit us, or we visit them, several times each year. Donna's dad still plays the piano and her mom is hands-down the family's best cook. They both have a great sense of humor. We both love outdoor activities and are very active. We hike, ski and swim and like to visit all sorts of places. At home, James works on restoring small vintage motorcycles and his 1950 Studebaker car. Donna works on the house and garden. Our house has lots of music in it: either from James' radio while he works in the garage, or from Donna's playing the piano or singing. We both think family is very important and we are very close to ours and would raise our child with the idea that family is valuable and that those relationships are to be respected and cared for over the years. Because of that, we'd be very open with our child about his or her adoption, saying that his or her birth mother did a very courageous and unselfish thing. Thank you for taking the time to read a little about us. If you would like to find out more, or just talk, we would love to talk with you. You can call us anytime.
