John has worked in the food/service/retail industry his entire life. He worked for different grocery store chains while in school, then worked at various restaurants during the breaks. After the accident, he worked at Kraynaks in Hermitage for seven years before moving to WalMart where he's been for the last seven years. There isn't an employee at WalMart who doesn't know him, for he's known for his helpfulness, kindness, hard working, and dependable traits. The employees love his personality, wit, and humor and always comment about what a joy he is to work with.

About Janey

Janey is 42 years young and in John's words "full of energy and enthusiasm for life." She was born in Mt. Pleasant, PA and graduated from Grove City College with a degree in Business Education. She furthered her education the following year by earning a master's degree in education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and was then asked to be a professor at Grove City College. It was at that point that she moved to the Hermitage, PA area to live (and where she met John).

She has had the unique opportunity to be a social director (like Julie McCoy on the Love Boat) during the summers while she was teaching at Grove City College, teach college, and then go back into corporate life as a systems analyst and programmer before her current job as a high school computer teacher. During the last five years of teaching, she has been nominated for several national teaching awards, and thoroughly loves her job and the kids.

Last year, her entrepreneurship class created the Frosty Open golf tournament to raise funds for the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption and the kids were recognized nationally by Wendy's International for their efforts. As you can guess, Janey loves the kids and loves to give them opportunities they would not normally have. Last year she arranged a field trip for 20 students to go to Walt Disney World for the Disney Youth Education Series (a series of workshops for high school students showing them the behind-the-scenes work and how what they're learning in school is put into practice at Disney). Both she and John were chaperones and the kids begged her to go back again this year!

Our Interests

Both of us like the same types of hobbies, sports, and activities—one of the things that initially attracted us to each other. We love to walk/run and compete in 5K running events. John is always twice as fast as Janey, but we still both enjoy it immensely. We both love golfing, shopping (yes, John likes it as much as Janey!), music (Janey plays piano and flute; John plays trombone), voice (we both like to sing), swimming, riding bikes (we live near the 70+ mile Youghigheny River Trail and love to take long bike rides), canoeing, crafting, running and walking of course, and tennis. We also love the arts and often attend plays or concerts.

We love to work in the yard and lay out in the pool to relax afterwards. We like to work on the computer too and often watch a movie in the evening together. We love to travel and are as involved as we can be with our church.

We really like to do all kinds of things together and have fun doing them. We both believe that exercise is very important to maintain a healthy body and although we may not look it, it is a priority for both of us!

Our Home

We moved to Mt. Pleasant, PA (Janey's hometown) from Hermitage, PA (John's hometown) in 1998 so that Janey could go back to teaching. We lived with Janey's parents for a year until we could get our house built. Our home is a bi-level three bedroom brick/siding house in a plan of homes. We have two bathrooms (one which a really cool looking Caribbean fish theme that we made specifically for a child) and almost an acre of ground. Each room is themed and we have fun taking care of it! We have a small bubble pool out back and a great deal of room for a child to play.

The neighborhood is in a plan comprised mainly of families of all ages and is less than a mile from Main Street. We have a large fenced in back yard where you can see the entire town of Mt. Pleasant from the top. We have a large deck and a kids bubble pool out back. Our neighborhood has numerous young children for a child to play with and we are lucky to live in a small town where they still have an Easter egg hunt and Halloween parade for the kids and lots of parades/activities for families to attend.

We are looking forward to joining those mothers and fathers who take their kids for a run or bike ride throughout the neighborhood as well as watch him or her play little league in the nearby park. We also look forward to taking him or her to the playground to swing and slide and play in the sand box!
