More About Us

We met in 1986 at church, nine years before we were married. Both of us were in the same Sunday School Class and we both sang in the choir and Cantata. John’s mother Peggy was in Janey’s bell choir (Janey directed the bells), so Janey knew and loved Peggy long before John was in the scene.

Our lives started with a defunct ski trip that the Sunday School Class was supposed to take. It ended up that no one except the two of us went, so we had the day to enjoy one another skiing. After losing our money somewhere on the slopes that afternoon and laughing about it all day, we became great friends laying the foundation for a strong marriage later.

We didn't start dating until 1992 and got married in August of 1995. We have a very strong and stable relationship that has grown from a foundation of values, morals, and friendship. We can honestly say that we both love each other more now than when we were first married.

We hoped to start a family after our wedding, but after countless procedures realize that we would be unable to do so biologically. We hope you will help us fulfill our dreams of becoming parents. We have relatives who are adopted and we know firsthand that we will love an adopted child every bit as much as a biological child and are just as excited to welcome him or her into our family!!!

Our Families

We have both been so fortunate to have both sets of parents who love us, have been married for over 40 years, who get along great, and who have given us the most unbelievable opportunities, love, and support that anyone could possibly ask for. We hope and pray that we may give the same to our child some day. They have always been there for both of us with daily involvement in our lives, support, prayer, help, fun, camaraderie, friendship, and love.

Janey has one younger sister Claudia who also teaches high school, but she teaches in a different district and teaches math. She is single and an avid tennis player at a teaching pro level. She too loves kids and teaching and can't wait to be an aunt! She lives about 45 minutes away from our house and we see her just about every week.

Janey's parents were also high school business education teachers (Janey actually has her mother's job!) but are now retired and loving it! They live less than a mile away and would do anything to help us with a child...they are really looking forward to being doting grandparents! We see them or talk to them just about everyday.

John has one younger sister Susan, who is...yes...a teacher too, but she is an elementary teacher. She has been married for about five years, has overcome brain cancer, and has two beautiful sons (6 months and 4 years old). She too lives about 45 minutes away and we get to see her several times a month depending on our schedules. We love our nephews and enjoy playing with them every opportunity we can.

John also has an older half brother Kenny who is not a teacher, but a physical assistant and girls basketball trainer for Youngstown State University. He has been married for more than 25 years to Mary and they live over an hour and a half away. We enjoy seeing them when our schedules actually match!

John's mom was...you guessed it...a teacher in the elementary school, but is also retired. John's dad worked at Sharon Steel and retired from there several years ago. When we lived in Hermitage, we lived six doors down from them, but now live about and hour and a half away. We still manage to see them at least once a month or more and talk to them on the phone about every other day. We even went on a cruise with them this past summer and really enjoyed the time together! They love being grandparents and are anxious to be involved with our child soon.

Our Vacations

We have been so fortunate to take many vacations and enjoy traveling together. We have been everywhere from Ocean City, NJ to Florida, Las Vegas, Canada, Cancun, St. Thomas, St. Maartin, Curacao, Puerto Rico, Cozumel, Grand Cayman, Ocho Rios, the Bahamas, Bermuda, England, Scotland, and Aruba not to mention little trips here and there and visits to just about every state.

We particularly like the sun and interesting places. When we go on vacation, we are active and like to see as much as we can, but then we also like to just sit and take in the sun too! We will bike ride in the morning on the boardwalk or climb a mountain in the afternoon. We have both snorkeled and one day hope to ski the Swiss Alps. If there's adventure or learning involved, we'll be there! We have traveled with family, friends, and just us. We've even biked over 300 miles from Hagerstown, MD to Washington, DC.

We have been blessed that we have been able to see our great country and world, and we can't wait to take our child with us as we explore more!
