Our Families

Martin is from New Zealand so his family lives there. We are fortunate enough to get to travel there once a year for a month to two months at a time. He comes from a very loving family and maintains a close relationship with them, despite being so far away. Occasionally, they get to come visit us as well, and with the Internet, we feel like we're never very far from them. We are both very close to Michelle's family. Michelle's parents and brother and sisters and their families all live within forty-five minutes of each other in the Atlanta area and most of her aunts, uncles and cousins all live within a three-hour radius of Atlanta so we're always able to get together on the big holidays, as well as the more intimate occasions such as birthdays and weddings.

Each Thanksgiving is our family reunion and we take turns having it at each other's homes. Everyone comes and we have a family golf tournament on the Friday after Thanksgiving, for whoever wishes to golf, and a shopping day, for those who wish to shop, unless it's at our family cabin in the mountains, then it's just playing games, hiking, boating, and relaxing over the weekend. Everyone on both sides of our families is praying for and looking forward to having a new child in the family to love and cherish (and spoil). Both of our families know firsthand the benefits of adoption and the way in which the adoptive family can thrive as each of us have relatives who have come into our families through adoption.

Our Dog Trouble

... is our friendly, furry, four-legged child, and he and Martin are best friends. He became a part of our family through adoption, as well. Please don't let his name fool you, as that's the name he came with. He is a loving and gentle Black Labrador who loves to be around people and to go for walks and play Frisbee. He also enjoys a swim in the lake and to laze around the house. He will be a wonderful companion to our child.

Our Neighborhood

We live in the suburbs of Atlanta. We have a comfortable home with a large fenced backyard with lots of room for a swing set and sandbox. The nursery and playroom face the sunrise. It's a family-oriented neighborhood with children ranging from newborns to teenagers. There are several families in our neighborhood who have also adopted children. The schools are within walking distance and there are a few lakes for the kids to fish out of and learn boating skills. We are also not very far from the north Georgia mountains where we enjoy camping, hiking and horseback riding.

Our Views on Parenting

We believe in raising a child guided by love, consistency, understanding, support, positive reinforcement, openness, honesty, and trust. We believe the two most important lessons for a child to learn are responsibility and respect. We wish them to respect themselves, their family, their community, their environment, and God. We will teach them the importance of good manners and good humor. We've always believed that having at least one parent home at all times is extremely important in the child-raising process. We know it is imperative to be positive role models. We know that every child is unique and will encourage our children to pursue whatever interests they enjoy, at their own pace. We place a high value on education and hope to instill in them the motivation to learn, to read, and to dream. We are fortunately able to send our children to the best schools possible and will encourage them to be happy in their educational and career pursuits. We believe a strong sense of family is invaluable and will plan to adopt a second child in the near future so that your child will know the love and friendship of a brother or sister. We plan to raise our children in the Christian faith.
